Digging through some of my old stuff, I found my stash of old coins. Not antique but back in the days I used to keep coins that hails from different countries and what was handed down to me from my father, mother, friends, relatives and whoever. The internet was not too much available at that time and having those coins from all over the world was fascinating for me back then when I was a teenager.
Below here is a (CHOGM) Commemorative Coin dated 1989 form Malaysia. CHOGM stands for Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. On the front shown is a logo then the country of origin Malaysia and then a denomination of 25 ringgit.
Below here is the rear side of the coin which reads “Malaysia Duit Syiling Perak 25 Ringgit” which translate to “Malaysia Silver Coin 25 Ringgit”. On the coin itself reads “Mesyuarat Ketua-Ketua Kerajaan Komanwel” at the top side and an English version at the lower segment that reads “The Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting. The center of the coin is a Malaysian flag and the top right is the Commonwealth logo. The year stated is 1989.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Malaysia was held from 18-24 October in 1989. It was chaired by the country’s prime minister at that time. The most recent CHOGM meeting was held in London from the 16 to 20 April 2018.
This meeting is held every 2 years and there 53 member countries that will take part.
The coins that I have are non-proof and they are enclosed in a nice solid plastic casing. If I remembered correctly their mintage is 30000 pieces. They also have a proof edition with a mintage of 8000 pieces.
Another coin that was released together is the 5 Ringgit CHOGM coin. I do not have a picture or details for this coin as I do not have it in my possession but I do know that is is not a silver coin.
